We created three visuals for Shirley Collins album ‘Archangel Hill’ using a mix of techniques and different narratives for each one to accompany Shirley’s beautiful lyrics.
1. High and Away
For ‘High and Away’ we wanted to make a series of landscape paintings showing the before and after the passage of a tornado. We made all drawings by hand, used typeface animation for the chorus, and the tornado in 3D.
2. Hares On The Mountain
On ‘Hares of the Mountain’ Shirley sings about a girl named Sally and the things that she see so we though about making it more as a character animation, cutting between scenes with her and what she observes.
3. Fare Thee Well My Dearest Dear
The song is about a ship traveling on the ocean so we wanted to make the entire journey during the visuals, as the water level changes and the sun sets in the background, while some moving painting pop-up on the front.
